First Amendment Day panel asks “Who’s a journalist?”

by Andrew Forrest

Tuesday was “First Amendment Day” at UNC.  And while the First Amendment, of course, protects the rights of journalists, it’s not clear nowadays what a journalist is.  With the expansion of social networks, anyone can find news and spread it.

In Washington, Congress is trying to decide who should be protected by a federal shield law … which would protect journalists and their sources.

Andrew Forrest attended a panel discussion on the issue at Carolina.
