Dementia places burdens on patients, families

by Andrew Forrest

A sad truth in life is that as we get older, our bodies often wear down. But even more troubling is when the mind starts to go as well, which is the case with dementia.

Dementia is defined as the loss of mental functions — such as thinking, memory, and reasoning — that is severe enough to interfere with everyday life.

As devastating as it is, the stress  on the family that cares for their loved ones is enormous.

Andrew Forrest went to Trinity, North Carolina, to follow  a family who cares for one of these elderly patients.
