Cates – a Black Chapel Hill resident – was fatally stabbed on campus in 1970. Members of a white supremacist group were charged with murder but found not guilty by an all-white jury.
The number of cases has caused a shortage of beds, so the hospital has added six more to an unused portion of the building. It’s gearing up to add as many as 14.
Statistics from the Chapel Hill Police Department show that reports of harassment on Franklin St. increased from 9 to 19 last year, but are back down to 6 so far this year … though not all cases are reported.
UNC will host next year’s World Anti-Bullying Forum. The event brings together anti-bullying researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and educators to discuss their work. Leading the forum is UNC Education Professor Dorothy Espelage.
Dean Raul Reis took over shortly after the national organization that accredits journalism schools granted UNC only provisional accreditation. It said UNC failed to meet standards in inclusion and diversity, among other things.
