Four times this semester, UNC’s emergency sirens have sounded.
Two were for inclement weather. One was just a test.
And there there was last Sunday. The system was put to use when police received reports of a man with multiple knives threatening people on campus.
Alert Carolina is the system responsible for turning on sirens and sending text and email alerts about emergencies. The system frequently gets criticism for not being fast enough or being too vague.
Who is in charge of Alert Carolina, and who is responsible for getting its messages out?
