This week, a new chapter began in UNC’s long-running academic scandal.
Julius Nyang’oro, former chairman of the department now known as African, African-American and Diaspora Studies, was indicted on a felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses. He allegedly accepted $12,000 from the university to teach a summer course that never met.
He denies the charges, and students are defending the integrity of the department.
