The UNC Board of Governors approved a plan to provide employees with paid parental leave. The plan must be approved by the Office of State Human Resources before it can take effect in 2020.

Interim UNC System President Bill Roper said many UNC employees are “women or men who have family needs, and we need to make sure they’re able to take care of those family needs in the course of their work life.”

The UNC system is the latest state institution to adopt paid parental leave.
