UNC organization does part to keep bee population safe

By Rachel Brittain

We don’t see many bees flying around North Carolina at the end of November, but we do see the fruits of their labor. Pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, green beans and more of the foods that make Thanksgiving dinner so special are possible through the work of bees. But bees are at risk. Millions of bees are dying across the U.S. every year. In August, UNC’s Chapter of North Carolina Public Interest Research Group or NCPIRG launched their Save the Bees campaign, an effort to make the campus Bee Safe by limiting the use of pesticides on campus and increasing service learning and educational campus wide events.
