Water pipe rupture causes shortage in Chapel Hill

By Nathan Bernstein

Chapel Hill and Carrboro residents are without water this weekend after a series of problems at the Orange Water and Sewer Authority. First, excess fluoride got into a water tank forcing OWASA to shut down the Carrboro treatment plant. Then, a water main broke on Dobbins Drive–near East Gate Shopping Center.

In response, the university closed and the Orange County Health Department ordered local restaurants to also close. Residents stormed grocery stores for bottled water in preparation for the weekend.
