Student newspaper sues university for sexual assault records

The Daily Tar Heel has been UNC’s campus newspaper since 1893 and remains independent of the University. The DTH filed a lawsuit against UNC earlier this week.

UNC’s student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, filed a lawsuit against the University Monday. It’s a case that pits freedom of the press against privacy laws. The suit requests UNC to release records regarding sexual assault cases on campus. But the University claims those records fall under the protection of student privacy laws.
