Some prospective students avoid N.C. due to new law

by Jessa O’Connor

Last week, Barnes and Noble was chosen to operate the Student Stores. It might have been Amazon instead, but the vendor pulled out of negotiations. According to the News and Observer, the reason Amazon chose to back out was House Bill 2.

The new law strikes down local ordinances that protect LGBT rights in certain public facilities. It also mandates that transgender people must use the bathroom corresponding to the sex on their birth certificates.

But not only has HB 2 led to business boycotts of the state, it has also caused some prospective university students to avoid North Carolina schools.
