Lack of federal recognition limits college options for Lumbee students

More than 50,000 Native Americans are members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The tribe is one of eight state recognized tribes, but they aren’t recognized by the federal government. This lack of recognition can limit access for many to higher education.
