Spellings defends views on LGBTQ equality

Though Margaret Spellings has only been in office for a few days, she’s been the target of criticism for months. This includes protests held at various UNC institutions, including here in Chapel Hill.

One of the protesters’ complaints about Spellings concern her past comments about the LGBTQ community, including a controversial letter she wrote as Secretary of Education in 2005. But someone that has worked closely with Spellings for years says that letter could have been an anomaly.
