Some bartenders on Franklin Street say they are cracking down on ID checks after the state punished two bars for admitting underage drinkers.

In July, police charged 20-year-old UNC student Chandler Kania with murder. They say he drove drunk and caused a crash that killed three people.  The state suspended the alcohol licenses and fined the owners of He’s Not Here and La Residence, where investigators say Kania used a fake I-D before the crash.
