University Day is Monday, October 12. Construction of Old East began nearly 222 years ago. It’s a time for the Carolina Community to celebrate its history. But it’s for that reason — the way UNC-Chapel Hill treats its history — that one group plans on protesting Monday.

The debate centers around McCorkle Place, where the Silent Sam monument pays tribute to Confederate troops. But there’s a much smaller monument that honors another side of UNC’s past just feet away.
