Daniels Student Stores at UNC is the physical center of the Chapel Hill campus, and for many, the heart of the university. Independently owned and operated, the 100 year old store employs over 200 people, including students.

But a new proposal could change that by outsourcing one of the nation’s largest campus bookstores. National bookstore chain Follett wants to take it over. Supporters say a larger company could provide better prices and new financial resources, while opponents say privatization puts longtime employees at risk.
