After 29 years, Teaching Fellows ends

After 29 years in existence, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program will graduate its last class this month. The program was funded through a non-profit group called the Public School Forum. The General Assembly searched for others ways to fund teacher education, and opted to give money instead to Teach for America. (2011 file photo)

After 29 years, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program will graduate its last class this month. The program encouraged thousands of college students to take jobs as teachers in North Carolina schools.  In 2011, the North Carolina General Assembly voted to end the program.
