Local residents, global leaders seek answers about student deaths

by Stephanie Beckett

As Chapel Hill continues to grieve the loss of three promising young people, their deaths are now attracting international attention. The FBI and the U.S. Justice Department are reviewing the case. President Obama released a statement yesterday calling the killing “brutal and outrageous,” while world leaders from Turkey and Jordan are among those questioning whether the victims were targeted because of their Muslim religion.

Police initially concluded the motive was a dispute over parking. They arrested 46-year-old Craig Hicks and charged him with three counts of first degree murder.

Here in Chapel Hill, the neighborhood where it happened is shaken but still searching for answers.
