If you’ve heard anything about UNC from national media lately, it has likely been all about Emilio Vicente, an undocumented immigrant who ran for student body president. He was featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and celebrities including Eva Longoria supported his candidacy.

However, elections are decided by voters, not media and movie stars, and Vicente’s national attention was not enough to win him the office.
