National news this week revolved around the government shutdown in Washington. UNC officials say the shutdown will not have an immediate impact on the university.
But what will have an immediate impact are the school’s current budget issues. The state legislature has cut UNC’s budget by $28 million. The UNC system as a whole has lost $500 million in the last two years.
Both students and professors are feeling the effects from these cuts in the research labs and classrooms.
