Historic drug store adapts to growing competition

by Logan Martinez

For more than 90 years, Sutton’s Drug Store has been a staple on Franklin Street. People line up  for  old-fashioned burgers or hot dogs at the soda fountain.

But fewer people are visiting Sutton’s to get their medicine. The store faces competition from  chain pharmacies, like the Walgreens down the street. Just this week, Triangle Business Journal reported that CVS also plans to open a Franklin St. store.

Carolina Connection’s Logan Martinez stopped by Sutton’s to find out how smaller pharmacies are adapting to the change.
