Accidents prompt pedestrian safety concern

by Jennifer Brodish

A Chapel Hill man has an April 3rd court date for causing an accident on Franklin street, and he wasn’t even driving a car.

Police say pedestrian James Baker was not using the crosswalk when he darted across the Intersection of Franklin and Columbia Monday. He ran in front of an oncoming bus and was then hit by a car as he crossed into the second lane.

Police say accidents like this one are common both on and off-campus. Both drivers and pedestrians need to exercise more care.
