Pat McCrory has been governor of North Carolina for less than a month, but he has already made it clear that he wants to shake things up at UNC. This week he made some comments on a radio talk show that are causing concern among university officials and sparking outrage from some students and faculty members. On Bill Bennett’s nationally syndicated radio show, Morning in America, McCrory said the university’s emphasis should be on getting students jobs. He said students who want to take classes such as gender studies should “go to a private school.”
Many on campus saw that as a strike at the heart of UNC’s liberal arts mission.
