Amy Perko is the executive director of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. The commission was created two decades ago in response to the growing number of scandals in college sports, and it works with universities and the NCAA to make sure academics come before athletics. Let’s just say the commission has stayed busy.
Perko used to be on the NCAA’s enforcement staff, so she’s seen plenty of cases like UNC’s, where universities punish themselves to try to avoid bigger crackdowns by the NCAA.
