Somoano named men’s soccer coach

By Daniel Helena

Carlos Somoano was recently named Carolina's head men's soccer coach.

After two and a half months of being without a head men’s soccer coach, Carolina named Carlos Somoano as the fifth head coach in the program’s history and the school’s first ever Hispanic head coach Monday.

Before this week, only one minority had ever served as a head coach at UNC. Hubert West, an African-American, coached the track and field team from 1982 to 1983.

  1. Dear Coach Carlos,
My name is Oscar Aparicio and I live in El Salvador, I’ve just graduated from high-school and I would like to study abroad and keep doing what I like the most that is playing soccer. I would like to get more information regarding any soccer scholarship that your university offers. I realize your soccer team its quite competitive and your spots are limited. However, I believe I can fulfill all the requirements and I would really appreciate if you give me this opportunity. Here I attach a link of me scoring two goals in a game. I don’t know if I would need to send you more videos in order for you to make a decision or if I will have to go to your university in this up coming months to see how I play and make a final decision. I look forward to hearing from you. Take care.
