UNC Housing officials met this month with students who want to change roommate policies at UNC. For students living on campus, roommates and suite mates must all be the same sex. But some students want a new option: gender-neutral housing. That means a students would be able to room with any other student regardless of their sex. While most of the UNC advocates for this housing option are students in the LGBTQ community, gender-neutral housing is meant to provide an inclusive environment to any student.

  1. I think it’s important to keep in mind that no one would be forced into gender non-specific housing because it would be on an opt-in basis only with those under 18 requiring permission from a legal guardian.
