Proposed Pell Grant cuts could affect UNC students

President Obama’s recent budget proposal takes a scalpel to the Federal Pell Grant Program, but a bill in the Republican-lead House would use more of a machete.

The Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduates and certain graduate students…and if the House gets its way it faces a drastic 5.6 billion dollar cut. That could have a widespread impact on UNC’s campus where almost a quarter of students are Pell Grant recipients.
