Protesters halted traffic on Franklin Street Tuesday to protest the new state law striking down local non-discrimination ordinances. The so-called House Bill 2 was the legislature’s response to a Charlotte ordinance aimed at protecting transgender people.

The day prior, three people and two organizations announced they‘re taking the state to court in hopes of overturning the new law. One of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the state works at UNC.
