If you call 911 in Wake County, the ambulance that responds might be a little slower and a lot quieter.

The County Department of Emergency Medical Services is reducing its use of sirens and lights for many ambulance calls. The new policy comes after 21 EMS vehicles were involved in accidents during 2025.

County leaders say the blaring sirens and high-speed responses rarely make a difference for patient survival.
