Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this week the U.S. has revoked the visas of at least 300 international students studying at American universities. Rubio said the revocations are targeting students who – in his words – “vandalized universities, harassed students, took over buildings, and caused chaos.”
After a Thursday meeting of the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of the American Association of University Professors, chapter president Michael Palm said the crackdown is creating concern among UNC faculty.
PALM: The most pressing crisis right now is the physical safety of our colleagues and students who are at risk, primarily those who are international students and who have been vocally supportive of Palestine.
While arrests at universities like Columbia and Tufts have generated court challenges and widespread criticism, there has not been any confirmed ICE activity at UNC.
