Almost a year after Pro-Palestinian protests erupted at American college campuses, the Trump administration is cracking down on some international students who participated.

Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil – a native of Syria who’s a permanent U.S. resident – appeared in immigration court Friday. A judge scheduled a hearing for April 11t on whether Khalil can stay in the United States. Khalil faces deportation after he helped lead Columbia’s Pro Palestinian demonstrations in 2024.

Meanwhile at UNC, protestors congregated on the quad Wednesday to criticize what they say are unconstitutional actions by the Trump administration.
