UNC students will now be required to learn about ‘the foundations of American democracy’

Thomas Jefferson. Alexander Hamilton. Martin Luther King, Jr. UNC System leaders say today’s students don’t know enough about these figures and other parts of American history.

So this week, they approved a curriculum change that will require future UNC system students to learn about the foundations of American democracy to graduate.

But among those questioning the need for the new requirement are some history professors.
