College enrollment rates have decreased since the COVID-19 pandemic

National undergraduate enrollment rates have been dropping since 2010, but the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated that decrease, with colleges enrolling 1 million fewer students this year than in 2019. The sudden transition to remote learning and the pains of the pandemic economy led some young adults to pursue avenues other than college.
