UNC lifts its mask mandate, leaving some students joyful and others nervous

By Sierra Pfeifer

In preparation for the end of the UNC mask mandate, a university employee removes signs reading “Wear A Mask,” which have been hanging on campus for two years.

For the first time in two years, UNC students will be able to go to class without masks. The university is dropping its indoor mask mandate effective Monday. Students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks in spaces like libraries and dorms. Masks will still be required in healthcare settings and on Chapel Hill Transit buses.

Sierra Pfeifer talked to students on campus to hear their reactions to the change.
