The UNC System is lifting its mask mandate, but UNC-Chapel Hill will wait for Orange County to do the same

UNC System President Peter Hans has announced the System will end its mask mandate March 7. But Hans’ order is subject to local regulations, and Orange County leaders at this point have no plans to lift the countywide mask rule. 

That means UNC-Chapel Hill students will have to remain masked indoors until county leaders act.
