Netflix series inspires UNC Law School event considering racial injustice and the law

By Margaret Cullum

The event was titled ‘We Are Us’ based off the series title ‘When They See Us.’ (Margaret Cullum / Carolina Connection).

North Carolina lawyers and judges gathered at UNC’s law school to discuss racial issues in the legal system. The meeting was inspired by the Central Park 5 case, in which a  group of black teenagers were wrongfully convicted of assaulting a white woman in 1989. The panel revisited past injustices, confronted current issues, and advised students on what they can do to help.
