Old age, new groove: local seniors perform flash mobs

By Elinor Solnick

Picture a flash mob. A mass of people in a train station or airport spontaneously pulsing and gyrating.

Now imagine one of those people is your grandma.

For more than a year, a group of dancers with a median age of 65 has been taking flash mob classes in Chapel Hill. And they’ve been holding surprise performances across the Triangle.

Carolina Connection’s Elinor Solnick went to a class this week.

  1. Thank you for a wonderful piece on our OutLoud Flash Mob, local to Orange County but we travel the Triangle. Professional, great sound bytes, background music and we love to Flash Mob. We enjoyed having you in our class. Please return so you can experience the joy of Flash Mobbing with us at least once.

    • Thanks so much Vicki! I had fun dancing with you guys. Hopefully you’ll get some more people signing up to join you all out there.
