Proposal targets undocumented UNC students

By Jessa O’Connor

Undocumented students at UNC are the targets of another controversial proposal.

A state Senate bill  would require UNC to disclose the immigration status of students if federal immigration officials ask. Sponsors of the bill say they’re just trying to make people obey the law.

Critics, like the American Civil Liberties Union, are calling it a “sweeping anti-immigration measure” and worry about the consequences.

Here to talk about the bill is ACLU of North Carolina’s Policy Director Sarah Gillooly.
