The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools were among the handful of school districts in the country to cancel classes on the “Day Without a Woman” Wednesday. The movement encouraged women to take the day off and not shop or do housework to show the impact women have on everyday life.
The districts say the closures were for safety, because many female employees are bus drivers and cafeteria workers. But many parents and community members saw it as a political protest.
