UNC System President Margaret Spellings is taking a stance on immigration. This week, Spellings wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in which she asked President Trump and his administration to preserve an immigration program called DACA.
The program put in place by the Obama Administration allows undocumented people who were brought into the U.S. as children to stay here. They must hold a job or be in school and re-apply for the program every two years.
As a candidate, President Trump promised to overturn DACA, but his administration has not yet said whether or when it might do so.
President Spellings says the program should stay in place, and she talks about it with Carolina Connection’s Erin Wygant.
