Many people really love the ocean. Maybe they went to the beach as kids, or the aquarium. But, for some super fans, simply admiring the ocean from afar wasn’t enough…so they decided to become mermaids. Nearly 200 of these “merfolk” gathered together last month at the largest annual mermaid convention in the country. The convention — called “Mermania” — was held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, and it gave participants a chance to show off their custom-made mermaid tails and meet people who share their unique passion.

Jessica Coates has the story.
