Concerns around student safety have reignited after a disturbing incident on campus August 31. A UNC alumnus targeted a student event held by black student organizations. Witnesses saw him wielding a sharp object and a home-made flamethrower.
The suspect, 45-year-old Keegan Carlisle Wilson, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and simple assault, according to the News and Observer. Wilson was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital following the incident.
But UNC did not activate its emergency alert system, Alert Carolina. Many community members were left frightened and in the dark about the status of the situation. Samantha Rose reports.
