Duke Chapel’s Day of the Dead altar invites students and visitors to honor loved ones

With Halloween behind us, Duke Chapel is commemorating a different kind of observance. A Day of the Dead altar, known as an ofrenda, is on display through this weekend.

The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a Mexican tradition that celebrates the lives of those who have passed. Many people build ofrenda decorated with photos, candles, and marigolds to welcome the spirits of loved ones back for a brief visit.
