As construction begins on NC’s first Buc-ee’s, neighbors are split on its potential impact

North Carolina is joining the Buc-ee’s craze. If you’re not familiar with it, Buc-ee’s is a fast-growing chain of giant gas stations with a cartoon beaver mascot.

The company withdrew its plan for an Orange County location because of local opposition, instead settling a few miles away in Mebane. That location is scheduled to open its doors in late 2026.

As Carolina Connection’s Marguerite Stouse reports, opinions are mixed in the Alamance County city.
