UNC has reinstated Dwayne Dixon, a Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, after placing him on administrative leave Monday.
The Chancellor’s office initially said Dixon was under investigation for alleged “advocacy of politically motivated violence.”
But UNC said Friday it found no basis to conclude that Dixon poses a threat nor has engaged in conduct that violates university policy.
“I’m sorry that classes were disrupted, I’m sorry for the students whose semester was disrupted,” said UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts at Friday’s Faculty Council meeting. “But I would do the same thing again based on the information I had at the time.”
The investigation began after a Turning Point USA spokesperson called on UNC to fire Dixon over his ties to a leftist group that Fox News described as celebrating violence.
Andrew Sellers and Brooks Stevenson prepared this report.
