‘Silent Sam’ causes loud controversy

"Silent Sam" has been a UNC landmark since 1913.

One of the best known landmarks on the UNC campus is coming under criticism.

“Silent Sam” commemorates North Carolinians lost in the Civil War. But opponents say the statue of a Confederate soldier glamorizes slavery and white supremacy.
