Spanky’s restaurant has closed after 40 years; the same owners will open a family-style “down home” restaurant in its place. A new Playmakers production documents the economic ups and downs of rural North Carolina. “Arts Everywhere Day” covers campus with painted pianos, spinning chairs, colorful duct tape, and other artistic creations.

An anti-gun rally at UNC includes survivors of the Parkland, Fla. shooting and family members of the victims. UNC’s Board of Trustees considers adding historical context to Silent Sam by installing signs and multimedia. Coyote sightings have some Orange County residents reaching for their guns, but officials are asking residents to try to coexist with the animals. Residents of a Chapel Hill mobile home park, many of them undocumented immigrants, fear losing their homes. A UNC expert says it’s difficult to protect your online privacy.

Students walk out of class to remember the victims of the Parkland, Florida shooting and call for stricter gun laws. UNC business students will pay a new $2000 annual fee. Students dance through the night to raise money for N.C. Children’s Hospital. The Daily Tar Heel moves to a smaller office to help deal with financial problems. A UNC study finds that while white men benefit from being taller, black men generally do not. A group of senior citizens has formed one of the Triangle’s most unusual flash mobs.

Tar Heel fans remember former sports play-by-play announcer Woody Durham, who died this week at the age of 76. Though courts have stopped President Trump from ending DACA this month, immigrants face an uncertain future. New tariffs on solar panels are hampering some students’ job search. A UNC sorority loses its house. Students travel to South Africa to document its post-apartheid legacy. UNC’s men’s basketball team advances to the ACC championship game.

UNC Health Care’s proposed merger with Charlotte-based Atrium Health has been called off. Local police are warning motorists about a string of catalytic converter thefts. UNC posted highway signs around the state celebrating last year’s men’s basketball championship, but not everybody was excited about it. A Chapel Hill fast food place wants to add a drive-through window, but some worry that will spoil the character of Franklin Street. Duke students talk about the chaos that surrounds getting tickets for the UNC basketball game.
