Warrants issued, but no arrests yet after campus monuments vandalized

By Payton Tysinger

Community members left flowers and candles around the Unsung Founders Memorial after it was vandalized (Payton Tysinger/Carolina Connection).

It’s been four days since UNC police obtained arrest warrants for two people accused of vandalizing a pair of campus monuments. But still, no arrests have been made. One of the monuments pays tribute to African-Americans who helped build UNC; the other honors student activists, including the ones who pulled down Silent Sam.

UNC officials say the people suspected of vandalism are associated with a group called the Heirs to the Confederacy.

Payton Tysinger reports.
