Play-by-play radio announcer and Tar Heel icon, Woody Durham, passed away Tuesday at the age of 76. He died in his sleep due to complications from Primary Progressive Aphasia. Durham covered UNC athletics for 40 years, much of it in an era before television. He helped fans feel like they were right there in Kenan Stadium, Carmichael Auditorium or the Dean Dome. As fans reminisce on national championships, and their fondest memories in Carolina sports, it was Woody Durham who provided the soundtrack.

Here’s Kennedy Erdossy with a remembrance.
