UNC meeting with NCAA may begin to bring closure to scandal

By Nathan Bernstein

A closed-door meeting took place Friday in Indianapolis between UNC and the NCAA. The meeting was another step toward determining whether the NCAA will assess penalties for the UNC academic-athletic scandal.

The meeting lasted five hours, but we don’t know yet what went on behind those doors.

But here’s what we do know, six years into the investigation:

UNC claimed in August that the NCAA overstepped its bounds and has no authority to penalize the university for giving athletes credit for classes that never met.  The NCAA disagrees and may sanction UNC.

To learn more about the meeting, we talk with Andrew Carter, UNC beat writer for the News and Observer.
