How common is cocaine use at UNC?

Three UNC students – all of them former varsity athletes – face court dates starting next week on charges of cocaine possession. Their arrests have sparked campus discussion about the extent of drug abuse at UNC.

Chapel Hill police allegedly found the three students in a parking deck on Rosemary Street earlier this month. Police say one of them appeared to be snorting something, and the suspects had a plastic baggie with cocaine residue on it.

Some students at UNC – and even one administrator – say they weren’t surprised to hear about students getting busted for allegedly using the drug. So how common is cocaine use at UNC?
